Charlie was trained to shut doors by using targeting. Training the targeting behavior has ALOT of practical applications including recall, navigating around "scary" things, introducing your pet to new people, getting your pet to settle in a crate or on a bed, cooperative care activities, and loads more! Not to mention that Charlie can close the crate door when the cat decides to go inside for a nap.

Pickles goes to his crate on cue. What you need to appreciate here is that Pickles previously only went into his crate while kicking and screaming. This is much better for everyone involved! Pickles has been taught to go to his mat on cue. We will use this behavior for cooperative care when delivering medication and going to the vet.

Charlie targets different objects with either his nose or paw after hearing the verbal cues "nose" and "tap". After Charlie's success here we move on to teach him how to target a single object with either his nose or paw which will further test Charlie's cue discrimination!
