Training Services

Positive reinforcement training is a powerful way for achieving the best possible relationship between you and your pet. Proper training can help prevent or remedy all types of challenging behaviors. In addition, positive reinforcement training will build your pet's confidence, increase their engagement with you, provide them with vital mental stimulation, and develop behaviors and "tricks" you never thought possible!

Improve Your Pet's Quality of Life

Training is an excellent way to provide your pet with essential mental stimulation, build their confidence, make them more content, and enhance your bond with them. You can also use positive reinforcement approaches to teach your pet to become a willing participant in activities like veterinary visits, medication delivery, and grooming which may otherwise be quite stressful for you and for them. Along with all of these benefits you will also learn how powerful positive reinforcement is for teaching your pet amazing behaviors and tricks!

Puppies and Kittens

Bringing home a new puppy or kitten is an exciting time, but it also comes with a lot of new responsibilities as you transition them into your life. House training, crate training, socialization, and some basic cue training are just a few of the essential foundations that you can give your new furry family member to help set them up for success. Puppies and kittens don't inherently understand the "rules" for how we would like them to behave. Many of the behaviors that we find undesirable are simply natural behaviors for our pets. Positive reinforcement training is a powerful and fun approach for teaching our puppies and kittens how to live in harmony with us.

Remedy Undesirable Behaviors

Positive reinforcement training is a scientifically-proven approach for dealing with a large number of different undesirable behaviors that your pet may develop. We can teach your pet alternative behaviors that can effectively eliminate undesirable behaviors like barking, leash pulling, leash reactivity, jumping on people, resource guarding, and destructive scratching.

ABOUT

About Mark's Happy Pets

Mark's Happy Pets is committed to helping you have the best possible relationship with your dog or cat through the use of positive reinforcment, force-free training.

I know from personal experience the challenges associated with having a dog that pulls on the leash and is leash reactive towards other dogs. And I also know how rewarding it is when you successfully train your dog to overcome these undesirable behaviors- when he is looking up at you for reassurance rather than barking and lunging at a passing dog. Not only do your walks become much more enjoyable, but you develop a newfound respect for what your dog can do with proper training.

The bond with your beloved pet will be taken to a new level once you begin engaging them with positive reinforcement training. And I am dedicated to helping you with any training needs that will benefit you and your pet. As a certified animal trainer and a PhD scientist, I will work with you using scientifically-proven training approaches. I understand that every pet is unique, and I take the time to tailor my services to meet your specific needs.

About Me

Dr. Mark Kinkema, PhD, KPA CTP

Positive Reinforcement Animal Trainer

I am passionate about building stronger and happier relationships between people and their pets through the use of positive reinforcement training.

I am certified in positive reinforcement animal training with the Karen Pryor Academy, a globally recognized standard of excellence in force-free, science-based training approaches. I am also a PhD scientist with expertise in scientific research and teaching at the university level. My background and experience will enable me to effectively identify the best, scientifically-proven, positive reinforcement approaches, and clearly teach you how they can be used to improve your life with your dog or cat.

I can help you prevent undesirable behaviors in your puppies and kittens, remedy behavioral challenges that your pet has developed, increase your pet's well being, teach you how to train fun behaviors and tricks, and enhance the relationship between you and your pet.  I work daily on training my own dog Charlie and cat Pickles, which is helping to strengthen our bond, develop beneficial behaviors, and curb challenging behaviors such as leash anxiety and leash pulling. And you should see how much Charlie and Pickles enjoy our training sessions!

Dogs and cats have always been an integral part of our family. In addition, I have volunteered for years at local animal shelters and rescue organizations to help care for animals in need and to serve as a foster parent. I will bring this same level of compassion and dedication when engaged in training sessions with you and your beloved pet.

I look forward to working closely with each of my clients to provide them with all the training and support they need for their Happy Pets!
